Quick facts:

Sometimes called R.E.M.  Rapid eye movement is a normal process of sleep.  It got its name R.E.M from the rapid movements in your eyes while you are asleep.  It can occupy an estimated 90-120 minutes of total sleep.  It is said by scientists that we experience 3 to 4 periods of R.E.M a night.  Recalled dreams usually occur during rapid eye movement.
